Archivist Defines: Rakish

This word looks as if it could be the name of an infamous vampire family in Innistrad. Most players I know pronounce it (rack-ish or raw-kish) as if it were, which is why I bothered to look it up for you (thank you, Merriam-Webster and Dictionary.com)!

rakish (rey-kish), adjective: dissolute, i.e. indifferent to moral restraints; marked by indulgence in things (as drink or promiscuous sex) deemed vices.

The definition above suits well these engorged vampires and their quote in flavor text. Interestingly, that definition is for the word "dissolute," a much older synonym. I believe Wizards chose the right word, though, as "rakish" was first used around the time Gothic horror was born, and "Dissolute Heir" doesn't roll off the tongue as salaciously.
